How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?
Age of the shingles, how much surface area is affected, and the condition of the decking underneath usually settle it between them. A roof under fifteen years old with isolated damage is almost always a repair. Widespread granule loss, several separate leaks, or soft decking found in more than one place on an older roof points toward replacement, and we always show the photos that led to that recommendation rather than just stating it.
What causes most roof leaks in this area?
Pipe boots, chimney flashing and valleys cause the large majority of leaks we repair, not the shingle field itself. Add the freeze-thaw ice damming that Centre County winters bring, and the picture is mostly the same across the whole county: it is the details around the roof, not the shingles in the middle of it, that fail first.
Do you help with storm damage insurance claims?
Yes. We document wind and hail damage with dated, measured photos organised the way an adjuster's line-item format expects, and we can walk the roof with the adjuster during their visit if that is useful. You handle the claim itself; our job is to make sure the inspection captures everything that is actually there.
How often should gutters be cleaned around State College?
Twice a year is the general minimum here, once after the spring seed and pollen drop and again once the autumn leaves are down, because of how much tree cover surrounds most neighbourhoods in this part of the county. Homes under heavy canopy, particularly in the older boroughs, often need a third cleaning to stay ahead of it.
Can you work through the winter?
Emergency repairs and temporary dry-ins happen year round, including in the coldest months, but a full tear-off and replacement is scheduled for warmer weather because shingle seal strips need enough heat to bond properly. If winter work is needed, we will tell you honestly what can and cannot be done properly at that time of year.
Do you offer a warranty on the work?
Workmanship is covered for a period we confirm in writing as part of every scope, and shingle manufacturers carry their own separate material warranty that we register on your behalf at the end of a replacement. Both are explained in plain terms before the job starts, not buried in fine print afterward.
How far outside State College do you travel?
The core service area covers State College and the surrounding boroughs, including Bellefonte, Boalsburg, Port Matilda, Pleasant Gap and Philipsburg. For anything further out, ask directly; we would rather tell you honestly whether a job is worth the drive than take on work we cannot service properly afterward.
